West Caribou Air - Savant Lake Provides fishing and hunting packages combined with our fly-in service. The world class cabins are equipped with some of the most comfortable rustic furniture. Solar powered lighting and water pumps provide quiet and consistent conveniences: cold running water, indoor showers and toilets, pots & pans, utensils, BBQ's, fish cleaning facilities, bedrooms with Simmons mattresses and box springs, gas stoves, vented fridges and glass door wood stoves to take the coolness out of northern evenings.

Each outpost has 12x12 decks. Each location has; 14' Lund boats,15 hp new Mercury motors, paddles, life jackets, survival gear and shore lunch boxes.

Suggested equipment to bring for walleye are: 3/8oz & ½ oz jigs that are fluorescent red, pink, green, orange and yellow; Rapala's, Rattling Raps, and Wally Divers are frequently used to challenge the walleye in colder waters; one or two piece rods, 5' to 6'; spinning rods that are ultra-light to mid-weight; reels with 110 to 200 yards of line on spinning or closed face reels; line ranging in weight from 12 - 16 lb test.

For northern pike tackle should include ½ oz to 3/4 oz spoons; spoons should include: Dare Devils, Doctor Spoons, Silver Minnows, Little Cleos as well as Mepps Spinners #4. Northern pike require the use of 9" - 12" leaders. Rods should be 6' - 7' one or two piece, medium to heavy action spinner or casting rods. Reels should be spinning or casting holding 165 - 200 yards of 12 lb - 17 lb test line.

Additional gear to bring should include: rain gear, coolers, layered clothing with medium weight jackets, gloves, hats and sunscreen to protect you from sun. For colder conditions, sunglasses, insect repellent, cameras to bring back memories, thermos bottles to carry you through the day with Java from camp or shore lunch preparations, and foot wear with waterproof rubber-soled shoes for rainy days.

West Caribou Air - Savant Lake Provides Fly-in Service. Communication will be provided, by satellite telephone, and West Caribou Air is available for a flight out of successful hunters. Our goal is to provide to the bear hunters a unique and quality bear hunt. The bear hunt will provide guides that are trained and familiar with the remote areas of high traffic bears. They will provide alternate sites with pre-baited and maintained stands that will provide cleared view for shooting your target. They will help quarter, prepare, and freeze your meat. The hides and heads will properly be prepared for mounting if desired. We have a limited amount of fall bear licenses that take you into large wilderness and isolated area where you will be the only hunters.

Moose Hunt Packages

Available one week in length (7 full days) last week of September and first week of October. Moose hunt packages includes use of 14' foot Lund boats and 15 hp motors, all the gasoline and boat gear needed, one guide for every two to three hunters, preparation and quartering of meat, and transportation of quarters to base camp. At each outpost camp on Yates Lake, and Kecheokagan Lake you will find the comfort of cabins equipped with hot showers, indoor toilets, warm wood fires, and quality mattress beds. Guides will be available to help you unpack your gear and settle into the comfort of a home away from home. Moose Hunt strategy meeting will take place with your guide to assure your awareness of the coming days itinerary. Aboriginal Guides will familiarize the hunting group with locations where moose have been seen or left signs of recent activities. You will be given opportunity to ask questions, and learn from hundreds of generations of moose hunting experience.

The first day will be used for your guide to familiarize the hunters with the area by scouting. You will be given the opportunity to fish for Walleye and Northern Pike in some of the best fall fishing territory available.

After a hearty breakfast you will load up with the help of your guides and head out for a crisp fall hunt. Your guides will have the boats ready for you as you venture into the morning fall mist to start your morning hunt. As you wait for the sun to rise, you will be overlooking a bay of opportunity for a moose to wander out, or be called out into your sights. As your heart rate increases, and buck fever kicks in, the "record setting" moose rushes out with antlers flashing, nostril flaring, and mating grunts filling the still morning air. Now its up to you to make a decision to shoot, or await for another opportunity.

One Full Week, (7) Full days it includes world class remote cabin sites, virgin lakes 14' foot Lund boats and 15 hp outboard motors, gasoline and boat gear, docking facilities, first class accommodation, and guides for two to three hunters. Each hunt is priced on the number of hunters and what is required to make the moose hunt experience meet your expectations. A Deposit of 50% (estimated) per person is required to reserve your hunt. The number of adult tags is limited, so register now for your moose hunt early to ensure you will not be left out.

Savant Lake can be reached by driving through International Falls, Mn., cross the Canadian border to Fort Frances, then travel on Hwy 11 East till you reach Hwy Junction 502, turn left (North) and follow Hwy 502 to Hwy 594 and take a right turn East again where you quickly go through Dryden to Hwy 17, travel East on Hwy 17 for approximately 18 miles until you turn left or North again on Hwy 72, Sioux Lookout is 42 miles North of Dinorwic. Turn northeast on highway 516 for about an hour turn left at highway 599 for 5 minutes, and find West Caribou Air on the left hand side of the road.

If You are coming via the Pigeon River crossing, or Duluth and Thunder Bay, continue on highway 11/17 west from Thunder Bay, turning North from Hwy 17 at Ignace and travel approximately 1.5 hours North on Hwy 599, past the town of Savant Lake by about 15 minutes. West Caribou Air is on the left side of the road. The friendly staff will get you up to Kecheckagan or Yates outposts with a nostalgic float plane ride.
