Our high Northern Canada Moose Hunting success rate can be attributed to only two factors of importance. 1. The ability of our guides to call moose. 2. Our ability to place our moose hunting clients on lakes in areas so moose rich and so remote there has been no moose hunting pressure of any significance..
Northern Canada is an untouched wilderness of over 100,000 square miles; larger than most states and many other provinces in Canada. The Northern Canada Moose Hunting areas we service are so vast and so forgotten that moose are born, grow and roam for a lifetime without ever being hunted or hunted so infrequently that it is of no consequence. Northern Canada produces larger moose and the big bulls have flourished in an environment where the only predators they have had to deal with from year to year are wolves, not man. Once a Bull moose reaches maturity and grows strong, wolves are not a real threat to its life and it continues to grow until it reaches its maximum height and weight. Its waiting for you in these remote and forgotten regions of Northern Canada and we will take you to him. If you would like more information, please feel free to call us. We have references available to confirm our success story.

Northwest Ontario has more moose than any other region in Canada. Moose are the ultimate in big game with many bulls sporting 55 + plus inch racks. Fully-guided moose hunts are available from us. Bow hunts as well as traditional rifle hunts are available or, for something uniquely different, try an old-fashioned black powder hunt. Non-resident moose hunts are based on tags available, resident moose hunts are BYOT's (Bring Your Own Tags for 01c, 16A, 16B, 16c, or other WMU of preference) We offer our tags in the very remote wildlife management unit 01C. There are few settings as wild or as beautiful to come moose hunting. Endless tracts of boreal forests, rock ridges and wide open meadows make up the topography of this area of Ontario. As you hunt, you'll find the setting to be to your liking and in itself a big part of the experience. Your accommodation choices are many and varied customized to your tastes. Full American plan, where meals are part of the package is available or for the more independent hunter, a housekeeping package where you do your own cooking is the best choice. For the frugal do-it-yourselfers we also offer the very basic deal where we fly you in, and you set your own camp, and bring your own food. We access areas that are fly in only moose hunting, both guided and unguided.
"Monarchs of the North"
Have you ever seen a Bull Moose moving swiftly through the forest? Would you like to see one? These "Monarchs of the North", the largest living members of the deer family constitute one of Ontario's greatest wildlife assets. Ontario moose hunting produces trophy racks!!! Our 01C Zone - hunt is held on Canadian lakes that are accessible only by air, and we are the most secluded in all of Ontario. Due to this fact, there is no hunting pressure except for you, and the Trophy size Moose category is abundant. It is without a doubt the best moose hunting found in Canada. At West Caribou we pride ourselves in thinking that we have one of the best hunts available. Our 100s of years of combined commitment and experience in offering these hunts & our history of happy guests speak for itself. Our success story speaks well for us. It is our goal to see that you will get the best that can be offered. Your success is our success!
Tent Camp Hunting
The advantage of a Tent Camp is that we place our camps on remote lakes or rivers in areas where there is no hunting pressure whatsoever and no permanent camps exist. The camps are so very remote the little hunting pressure they receive is not significant compared to the moose populations in the regions. Our moose calling experts can call bull, cow and calf moose to the shooter easily because the moose are not jaded from hearing too many fake calls. Our guides are moose calling experts, and they are available on a first come, first served basis. Some customers demand tent camps for the advantage of being placed in such remote areas that the big bull moose have never been hunted.
Moose Tags Required
The 01C Tent Camps are fully furnished large wall tents complete with ground covers, and tarpaulins. A good wood stove is installed for heat. We furnish all the utensils, propane cooking stove, Coleman lanterns, saws, food, and everything else it takes to make a completely furnished camp. Non Residents are obligated to purchase Moose Tags from an outfitter. West Caribou Air is an authorized outfitter and you must purchase the Moose Tags from us to hunt with us. Residents of Ontario may purchase Moose Tags before arriving or may purchase Outfitter Issued Moose Tags at a higher cost directly from us.

7-day All Inclusive Unguided Hunt
Unguided moose hunts require a lot of self catering and the experience necessary to read moose sign, create successful hunting strategies and call your own moose expertly and deal with the skinning and butchering requirements when you make your kill. If you have the skills, unguided hunts may be your best option. We take every precaution to ensure that every member of your party understands what to expect and what to do in any situation that you might encounter before you leave the float base dock whether your party are all experienced fly-in hunters or not. Satellite phones are available on a first come first serve basis so you can contact us at any time for emergencies, to fly meat out to cold storage during warm weather, etc....

The Benefits Of Party Tags
You have the option of purchasing one tag per group or a lesser number of tags than members of the group.
- 1. The percentage of kills has always been very close to 100%.
- 2. A reduced price for this hunt should make it affordable to first time moose hunters.
- 3. Larger bulls should be prevalent with less pressure on the bull population.
- 4. This allows us to better manage our area.

How We Hunt Moose
Most moose hunting is done along the lake shorelines as well as flowages that are coming into the lake at various locations. You do this from the boat and scout the shorelines particularly in areas where you can easily see tracks and signs such as beaches, mud flats or grassy areas. Each day you need to check these various places to see where the freshest sign is. At these locations, it would be a good idea to stand hunt, and call at day-break and sunset. During the time you're not stand hunting, you should always be scouting new areas in search of new sign. If you aren't seeing much fresh sign, then you will need to hunt further inland off the shoreline. You would do this by following the flowage up to beaver ponds and hunting the first ridge running parallel with the lake. If the moose aren't feeding on the shoreline, they have to be feeding on the upland areas and this sign should be easily recognized. If this is the case, then finding a location to stand hunt in these areas would be productive.

Party And Hunt Philosophy
Big game hunting is a large part of the resource based tourism economy and therefore the Ontario Moose herd is highly managed. Therefore it's important not to shoot all bulls or all cows. With a high mortality rate, the taking of calves is also recommended. With this management strategy in mind we offer, and encourage party hunting.
